What is Conscious Capitalism?

Conscious capitalism is a way of thinking about business that considers the impact of a business on the planet and local community. It's based on the idea that businesses have the potential to make a positive impact on the world.

John Mackey, co-founder of Whole Foods, and Raj Sisodia, a marketing professor, are the founders of conscious capitalism. They wrote a book about conscious capitalism and founded Conscious Capitalism, Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes their work.

The four tenets of conscious capitalism are:

  • Higher purpose:
A business should have a purpose that goes beyond making money.
  • Stakeholder orientation:
A business should create value for all of its stakeholders, including customers, employees, investors, and the community.
  • Conscious leadership:
Leaders should focus on the "we" rather than the "me" and inspire others to do the same.
  • Conscious culture:
A business should foster a culture of trust, cooperation, and caring among all stakeholders.
